Erik obtained a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Potchefstroom University (now NWU) in 1997 and was subsequently employed at Arcelor Mittal Flat Steel Products in Vanderbijlpark. At Arcelor Mittal he gained experience with cooling water systems, boilers, axial and centrifugal compressors, as well as various other mechanical plant systems and components. He was also part of various project teams that installed or upgraded capital equipment at the Blast Furnaces and the rest of the Works.
In January 2002 he joined the PBMR project as a thermo-hydraulic analyst. He was part of the team that designed, built and successfully started a closed cycle, three-shaft Brayton cycle in 2002. It was a
World first. In 2005 he became the System Engineer for the Main Power System Heat Exchangers and moved to the System Engineering Team of the Main Power System Turbo Machines in 2007. Studying part time, Erik received a Masters Degree (Cum Laude) in Mechanical Engineering from North West University in 2006. When PBMR reconfigured the plant layout to an indirect Rankine cycle, he became System Engineer on the Steam Generator in 2009.
Erik joined Tekniva in July 2010 as the Engineering Manager, but still enjoys doing detail design of plant systems and components. Erik will also assume management responsibilities at Carab Technologies.
